ZAMBIA INFORMATON
Currency
The unit
of currency is the Zambia Kwacha (K) which is divided into 100
Ngwee (N).
Notes are of the following denominations 50, 100, 500, 1000, 5000
and 10 000, 20 000 and 50 000 kwacha notes.
There is no limit to the importation of foreign currency, provided
it is declared on arrival on a currency declaration form
American Express, Diners Card, Visa and Access credit cards can
be used in some establishments. However please note that not all
safari camps accept credit cards.
Electricity
Both mains electricity and generated supply in lodges provide 240volts
AC50 cycles. Sockets are normally of the 3 “square” pin
variety 13 amp.
Time
Zambia
is 3 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
Personal Safety
Zambia
society is less affluent than Western society and it is best
never to make an ostentatious show of wealth. Though great efforts
have been made by the authorities there are still, like in any
country in the world, some areas in towns best avoided at night.
It is unwise to carry large amounts of cash around with you when
exploring any town. It would also be prudent to leave any expensive
items of jewellery at home. The Zambia police are generally friendly
and helpful to tourists.
